The Pediatrics Department
The Ghana Police Hospital Paediatrics Department is one of the numerous departments in the Ghana Police Hospital (GPH). It is currently being headed by C/Supt Dr. (Med) Cyprian Birmeh and deputized by C/Supt Dr. (Med) Ewurekua Forson who is the current acting head of the department in the absence of Dr. (Med) Birmeh.
The department provides comprehensive care to children from birth to 14 years of age. It has a bed capacity of 35 and is made up of four main units: Neonatal, Surgical, Medical, and Infectious Diseases.
The department’s philosophy is to give a high standard of care to patients irrespective of sex, race, creed, and social status. The department practices family-centered care where parents and caregivers are involved in the delivery of care for the well-being and comfort of its clients.

The Four (4) main Units
Neonatal
Neonatal Unit is dedicated to the delicate care of newborns, focusing on premature births, low birth weight, and congenital disorders. Equipped with specialized tools like incubators, this unit provides crucial support during the early days of infancy.
Surgical
It focuses on pediatric surgeries, collaborating closely with pediatric surgeons and anesthetists to manage cases such as appendicectomies and hernia repairs.
Medical
The Medical Unit within the Pediatric Ward handles general medical cases in pediatric patients, offering comprehensive care for common illnesses like respiratory infections and fevers.
Infectious Diseases
This Unit specializes in diagnosing and treating communicable diseases in pediatric patients. This unit not only manages cases like pneumonia and meningitis but also plays a pivotal role in educating parents and caregivers about effective infection prevention measures
