The Public Health Department
In Public Health Practice, we combine science and art with the aim of preventing diseases, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts of society. Public Health practitioners focus more intently on preventing disease rather than treating it. Additionally, we usually work on the health of entire communities or groups of people instead of one-on-one patient care, thus having a much larger impact on the general health and well-being of populations. The Ghana Police Service, through the Public Health Department of the Police Hospital, provides such services to its personnel and also to the general public in diverse ways.
The Department is currently made up of 6 main Units namely:
- Reproductive and Child Health Unit
- Adolescent Health Unit
- Disease Control and Prevention Unit
- Health Information Unit
- Family Planning Unit
- Public Health Clinic Unit
There are also subunits attached to some satellite police clinics (Ashanti/ Bono/ NPTS/Workshop Clinics).

To improve and promote the good health and well-being of all police personnel, their dependents, and their community through preventive programs, health education, medical response interventions, and research.

- Mobilize community partnership and action in response to public health emergencies eg, partnering with the satellite Police Clinics and Regional/Municipal Health Directorates.
