Ghana Police Hospital makes great strides in Antimicrobial Stewardship

The Ghana Police Hospital, through the antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) team, with support from the commonwealth partnership of antimicrobial stewardship and the hospital management has made great strides in antimicrobial stewardship by training staff on the dangers of antimicrobial resistance and the need to preserve the effectiveness of the antibiotics in use.

This endeavour is to help curb antimicrobial resistance which has become a major health threat  globally.

A total 154 clinical and non-clinical staff have been trained in the month of May

Areas covered during the training are:

  • Rational use of antibiotics
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Behavioural change

It is the hope of the AMS team and hospital management that the knowledge gained by the staff will be translated into more rational use of antibiotics in the hospital.
