The Director, Nursing and Midwifery Services
The Nursing and Midwifery Directorate is the organizational structure through which Nurses and Midwives provide skilled and professional nursing and midwifery care for clients in an accredited health facility. A traditional Nursing and Midwifery Directorate, which is in tandem with international best practice and consistent with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Services’ regulations, policies and guidelines, consists of Nursing Administration, Clinical, Education and Research. The primary purpose of which is to provide comprehensive, improved, effective and client-oriented Nursing and Midwifery Services, establishing and evaluating goals, ensuring reliable continuous professional education, and enforcing complaint to health-care policies amongst other dedicated duties through its motivated and goal directed personnel.
The Nursing and Midwifery Directorate of the Ghana Police Hospital performs these traditional functions with reference to the regimental requirement of the Ghana Police Service, hence its vision and mission, which dove-tails the functions of the Police Hospital.

Scope of Work (Service Rendered)
- Shall be responsible to the Directorate Medical Services, Ghana Police Hospital
- Ensure the development and maintenance of administrative and clinical proficiency in nursing and midwifery services
- Set standards for Nursing and Midwifery practices in the Police Hospital
- Command and control Nursing and Midwifery workforce in the Hospital
- Ensure general discipline in the attitude of Nurses and Midwives towards work and the Ghana Police Service in general
- Ensure equitable distribution of Nursing and Midwifery personnel in the hospital
- Prepare regular and annual reports to the Director Medical Services
- Handle welfare issues of Nursing and Midwifery personnel
- Manage and control conflicts amongst Nurses and Midwives at all levelsn Collaborates with the Core Management/Administration of the hospital to assess training needs and development of Nurses and Midwives
- Participate in Policy Development, Analysis and Review which affect Nursing and Midwifery Services
- Develop short and long-term goals and plans for the Nursing and Midwifery Directorate
- Coordinates with other Paramedical Personnel to ensure Hospital efficiency
- Ensure that all patient care plans have the documentation necessary to provide appropriate and client centered care
- Contribute to research and development activities in Nursing and Midwifery within the Hospital
- Establish and promote networks with local and international Nursing and Midwifery organizations, departments and agencies,
- Design and implement quality improvement programs to improve quality of care
- Ensure that, Nurses and Midwives are well motivated and committed in the performance of their duties.
- Ensure effective communication skills amongst Nurses and Midwives in the hospital
- Inculcate appropriate confidence and competitive virtues in Nurses and Midwives to excel within and beyond the facility
